Thanks for the nod. We're glad you're enjoying it! We certainly had fun writing it.

Yeah, I saw Ms. DuBois's picture on the cover of one of the tabloids, and was surprised that she is fairly pleasant looking and compares fairly favourably lookswise to Patricia Arquette. After all, who hasn't seen productions "based on a true story" where a glamourous Hollywood actor or actress plays someone who in real life is rather plain looking, or even homely?

i am a medium myself... im here to say fine... you may all believe in what you want... but this here is hard work... you cant just say the names of 120 killer to the police... its not like that its way too hard to explaine... just keep your comments too your self please...

and lol we dont "waste polices time" they come crawling to us when they get desperate and need us... they use us as a last choise ... psychics have changed the minds of many many skeptic police officers out there for there amazing ability... if only skeptical people would understand our needs and our problems... if only it were that simple... and if they had more respect maybe they might find a way to believeing... unless they just plainly dont want to... there refusing to let themselfs go... we might sound like mad people raving on about crap... but realy through our eyes its what we see... if you would only underrstand... other than making skeptical sites to try and proove us wrong... please once again i ask for a bit of respect...
even thou u might think a 15 year old is too young... its not... most people discover there ability at age 6 - 9.. im 15/m and live in australia and ive been scared, confused and sometimes in shock of things i have seen in dreams and visions... at age 10 these things got stronger... at age 14 i saw the tv show " crossing over with john edward" sumthing tells me he might lie alot lol but still it gave me the biggest hint that i was a medium so i did some research and now im begining to understand and now i am knowing whats going on with me and it realy is great... please i ask for consideration.. for people like me...
:) from jaime waters...

If you are so damn good, why do they only come to you when they are desparate? And show your work, ie one fucking case you identified a criminal by name, or provided an address where a missing person was. Otherwise, you are an asshole for wasting police time and providing false hope for families.

Jamie:

I am a skeptic myself... I’m here to say fine... you may claim what you want... but here you have to back-up your claims... you cant just claim you have given the names of killers to the police... its not like it’s way too hard to back-up if you really did it... but if you can’t, just keep your comments to yourself please...

well skeptico* you may believe what ever you like but you cant change my opinion or ask for evidence of what ive done when you know i cant give it, besides i didnt say ive helped police myself i said alot of other psychics have not me! and compare the worng psychics to the correct i think youll find the odds rather amazing to the corrects, and yes if u dont wanna hear me anymore ill keep my comments to myself and you should consider that too oh and rockstar* exactly what i was saying... we dont like to waste police time so we dont bullshit around we actuly try to help unlike you, ya cant help at all all u can do is whatch the news and hope they are found or maybe u dont care.... realy i dont care about you or what u say... read over my paragraph again more carfully ur response makes no scense what so ever.... and i was only making a point... so your all skeptic... well do u believe barbers? hair dressers? well this is a true story... a guy is in the hair dressers gettin a trim and they are talking then they come to the subject of god and the barber says god isnt real how can he be if he lets all the people of the world suffer... the customer leaves after his trim and sees a homeless guy on the corner with scruffy hair... the cusomer goes back to the barber and says barbers are not real... the barber says how can that be tru i am standing in front of u? the customer says well what about that bum across the street hes hair isnt neat and trimmed and the barber says well he hasnt came to me how can he be trimmed the customer says exactly not enough ppl go to god thats y there is so much suffering and pain..... see my point? skepics should keep opinions to themselfs!!!/ im not going to reply anymore so i dont expect anyone else to

Hey, Jaime, this is a skeptical blog - I should have thought the name would have given the game away. Anyone who feels afraid that their beliefs might be shaken by reading any opinion here gets ample warning. How dare you come here and try to stifle debate and reasoned argument by trying to shut us up? Start your own blog - then you can exclude comments that scare you.

I have seen plenty of TV documentaries where police chiefs have categorically denied that they have ever used any psychics, even when said psychics have cited them as satisfied customers.

I cannot for the life of me see why they should lie if mediums are so effective:

a) their wonderfully helpful psychic would be quite within his / her rights to say "well, screw you, pal" and concentrate on becoming a millionaire by divining next week's lottery numbers

b) other psychics watching would be put off from "helping police with their inquiries.

I would have thought that police chiefs would scream from the highest rooftops about how great psychics are if they were so successful! As an engineer with a strong interest in "real" science, I'd be stunned but fascinated if a single peer-reviewed, double-blind study showed that psychics could do better than scattergun guessing: that would mean a new scientific principle was at work, and the scientists would rush to the challenge.

Believe me, scientists don't become famous by maintaining the status quo: they become famous by discovering evidence of new phenomena that will enrich human knowledge. So you needn't think they'd brush *real* evidence of psychic powers under the mat - they'd leap at the chance.

That's all we want to see: evidence. Not "It is true, so there!" That doesn't help things at all.

If I could see official police records of a single case where a psychic came along and said, "Jane's body is buried in a field opposite a large bank in Deathville, Ohio. She was strangled with a belt and the murderer's name is Fed Smith. He looks like this. Sue me if I'm wrong."

I've read a lot of unsensationalist criminology books, and the psychics just come across as irrelevant nuisances; even the famous ones like Peter Hurkos and Gerald Croiset.

All they seem to come up with is shadows on a wall that can be interpreted about any way you might think.

As far as I can see, the predictions are no more precise than "I see white all around" (a pretty safe bet if the person's disappeaed in Alaska in winter). There are "insights" into the killer's psyche that don't compare to a forensic profiler's output. "His name's Rick... Mick... Nick... Dick..." (guy's gotta be in there somewhere.)

Please, please, please give details of a single documented case where the police zeroed in on a killer based solely on a psychic's detailed help, and where the police (not the medium) have acknowledged that this help was crucial.

i said alot of other psychics have not me!

Evidence?

...compare the worng psychics to the correct i think youll find the odds rather amazing to the corrects...

So far, the number of "corrects" seems to be zero, unless you count the obvious "out in the desert/forest" and "near water" ones, but no psychic powers are needed for those guesses.

we dont like to waste police time so we dont bullshit around we actuly try to help unlike you, ya cant help at all all u can do is whatch the news and hope they are found or maybe u dont care....

All your "trying to help" wastes police time and resources. At least we can stay out of the way and let them do their job, if nothing else.

Propagandistic appeal to motive noted.

read over my paragraph again more carfully ur response makes no scense what so ever....

Asking for evidence makes no sense?

(Nonsense barber story involving lots of straw men and a very bad analogy.)

The flaw in the analogy is a key difference between the barber and an omnibenevolent deity: The barber isn't omnibenevolent. He does his job for money, as demonstrated by the guy getting a trim. We have no evidence that God exists. We don't even have a definition of what evidence to look for. Granted, this absence doesn't disprove his existence, but I doubt any of us are stupid enough to suggest it does. When there's no evidence for something, we stick with the null hypothesis until there is evidence.

Interesting case in point - recently, the man who sent a tape recording to the police, purporting to be the Yorkshire Ripper, was jailed for eight years, thirty-odd years after the event. Because the guy on the tape had a "Geordie" (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) accent, and he gave a lot of detail, the police were ordered to concentrate on men with Geordie accents. Peter Sutcliffe, the actual murderer, was interviewed and released twice because he had a Yorkshire accent.

Three more women died after the tape was released. I wonder, if the hoaxer had been caught before Sutcliffe was finally arrested, he'd have said he was actually a medium channelling the spirit of the murderer?

Also, where were the "real" mediums, taking out adverts in the newspapers to tell the police they were wrong?

"He's not a Geordie! He's a Yorkshireman from Bradford, and his name's Peter Sutcliffe!"

However, I'm not aware of a single, solitary psychic who protested that the recording was a hoax. This was the biggest manhunt in British criminal history and on the front of all the newspapers. The police were utterly lost after thirteen brutal murders. WHERE WERE THOSE HELPFUL PSYCHICS?

Sutcliffe was eventually caught only because he was "kerb-crawling" in the unofficial red-light district. The police found ropes and ski-masks etc. in his car and picked him up for carrying suspected burglary tools. There were no nationwide databases then, so nobody said "Hey, Peter Sutcliffe; we've run across him six times before!"

They were about to let him go on bail when one of the officers remembered Sutcliffe had asked to go for a pee behind some bushes. On a hunch, he went back there and found a knife, a two-foot sharpened screwdriver and other weapons. He wasn't psychic; he was an experienced policeman who thought something in Sutcliffe's story didn't ring true.

So, where were the Allison DuBois's and Sylvia Brownes? Conspicuous by their silence. What about Jack The Ripper? The JonBenet Ramsay case? Where is Osama Bin Laden? All these issues are still unsolved, and I've heard of no crucual psychic evidence that lead to the solution of the Green River murders, the Boston stranglings, or any other high-profile case.

How come the only cases I hear psychics touting as mighty successes are ones I've never heard about in the newspapers?

Lol. That was really well written Al! Why shouldn't the mediums tell who Jack the Ripper was? I mean if they are so fantastic they can surely name Druitt, Kozminski or what the suspects name are. And I remember last year where Swedcens top mediums tried to help in a program where 10 unsolved murders and disappearances was scrutinized. Not one body was found, not one killer was named, not one little help was forthcoming...
